Fenugreek seeds (Trigonella foenum graecum)
In some Mediterranean countries Fenugreek is grown as food and fodder, but the cultivation of this strong, adaptable plant dates back to the Iron Age. In India, fenugreek is used as a condiment and is one of the components of curry mixtures. In China, India and Tibet it is also consumed in tea, and among the "body builders" Fenugreek is a common dietary supplement, especially because it contains choline, vitamin A and D, phosphorus and important amino acids, and the active substance diosgenin. Fenugreek is also credited with the ability to lower blood pressure and stimulate the production of breast milk.
