This variety originally from Mexico was grown for the first time in 1900 in Anaheim, California. Probably its popularity is due to its tasty peppery flavor and the fact that they are not that hot. These peppers can be used green  (from approx. 15 cm) or red when they have matured and can be used for fillings. They can also its little be used raw and in salads.
