Although Physalis is grown as an annual plant, it will survive mild winters approx. 15ºC and can grow for several years. The fruit of Physalis is rich in vitamin C and iron. It has a delicious flavor reminiscent of gooseberry. In Africa its leaves are also consumed as boiled vegetables. For a more abundant harvest it can be sown in February in pots indoors, outdoors from May.
