Chili Rocoto manzano, locoto seeds (Capsicum pubescens)
The Rocoto apple is an exceptional variety of chili with almost dark black seeds and slightly hairy leaves. The spicy heat of fruit can vary significantly even off the same plant. This variety is native to Bolivia and Peru and it is perfect in the kitchen for making sauces and of course stuffing (if you like spicy food!).
Because of its robust growth and strong roots (the plant can live several years) it is also called Chili tree in Germany, but should not be confused with the real "Chili tree" from Mexico.
Interestingly our plants began to bloom in June through September, began to get its first fruits in September and October. The possible explanation for this could be the temperature fluctuations (day / night) on the Mediterranean coast.
Hotness (1-10): 7-8
