Catmint, catnip seeds (Nepeta cataria)

Catnip contains the active substance nepetalactone which is especially attractive and stimulating for cats (although aprox.30% of cats do not react to this active substance). Another interesting effect is that nepetalactone is an effective repellent for mosquitoes and flies. Catnip has an agreeable smell is nice for humans and the leaves can also be used as a condiment in meat dishes.

In infusion has antispasmodic effects, stimulates menstruation and is diuretic (but should not be eaten during pregnancy). In the garden the plant reaches a height of 80 cm, and the flowering period is from June to September with lilac blue flowers that are visited by bees.
