As a herb Ocimum sanctum is particularly popular in Asia and India, where it is an essential plant in Ayurvedic medicine. One of the reasons for its properties are the large quantity of antioxidants contained in its essential oils. A curious fact of an investigation with mice fed on Holy Basil was that their coordination increased significantly. Tulasi is used often in India as an infusion however in Thailand it is only used as a condiment.

These plants have much smaller leaves than all other basil and hairier but they also offer an intense aroma
