Hawthorn seeds (Crataegus monogyna)
Hawthorn is important in both European and Chinese folk medicine. In Germany in 1990 it was chosen as the herb of the year for the use of its leaves and flowers and fruit. The berries are edible although fresh they are not very tasty they are ideal for jams. As a medicinal plant it strengthens the heart muscles and thus improves oxygen circulation. The plant is easy to care for. It grows better in calcareous soils. Hawthorn is also suitable for creating bonsais.
