Greek Basil seeds (Ocimum basilicum "minimum")
Greek basil has a more aromatic flavor than other species of small leaf basil. The flavor is a blend of basil, cloves and with a touch of aniseed.
This beautiful and compact basil is much better to grow it in pots than the large leaf varieties so it is also suitable to place it on the windowsill as mosquito plant. Of course, you can also use the leaves in cooking.
Soil: permeable soils and regular watering or plant dries very quickly. Potting is an advantage in cold and rainy areas.
Light: Needs a lot of sun and light.
Multiplication: With mini cuttings in greenhouses. With temperatures around 20 ° C it can be grown from seeds that need light to germinate. Place on the soil, press lightly and keep wet, germination takes approx. after14 days.
In winter: it does not survive the winter. Sprouts in late spring or you can pre cultivate on a window sill
Uses:
In the kitchen: Basil should be used always fresh, because dry it loses its aroma. Therefore it is recommended that you have a basil plant for immediate use in the kitchen. If you do not want to go without basil in winter it can be frozen, and you can also prepare a winter basil vinegar and basil oil. The best-known uses in the kitchen are the salad (insalata caprese) in tomato sauce pizza and the most famous Genovese pesto. But there are also herbal liqueurs containing its typical aroma.
In the home:
Medicinal: For digestive problems, but also for disrupted sleep, depression and migraines. Antispasmodic and analgesic properties have also been demonstrated.
