Bladder campion, bladder silene seeds (Silene vulgaris)
A forgotten wild vegetable from europe. In Italy under the name Strigoli, in Spain under the name Colleja is being re-discovered.
Silene vulgaris is a perennial plant that is harvested in Spring. Only the young tips (4-6 leaves) are used.
The blossoms smell of carnations, hence probably the name of clove.
The roots of the plant are rich in saponins and can be used as the roots of Saponaria Officinalis .
Bladder silene needs a dry, rather calcareous soil.
