Giant honey flower, honey bush plant (Melianthus Major)
The botanical genus name derives from Melianthus " méli " honey and " Anthos " flower. The Nectar produced by many of the flowers in separate droplets can be used as a sweetener , and this is the only part of the plant that is not toxic. Dried drops of nectar can be found for sale in the form of infusion. The plant is native to southern Africa.
It is popular in South African medicine , the leaves are used externally against rheumatism and bruises. Its name in Afrikaans is Kruidjie-roer-my-nie. which means - touch me not
