Lungwort seeds (Pulmonaria officinalis)

The lungwort offered here (Pulmonaria officinalis ssp. obscura) is so called because its leaves are without their characteristic points. Depending on the age of the plant the leaves can vary from pink to purple. Flowering occurs in spring. Lungwort was used in the Middle Ages as a medicinal for the lungs, in any case is an anti-inflammatory and relieves coughing. The flowers can be also be used as pH indicator in liquids, for example in vinegar, changing its color from red (acid) to blue (neutral).

Location: semi-shade. The natural habitat of lungwort is northern and central Sweden, for this reason the plant is resistant to winter cold.
