Blue lupiane (Lupinus angustifolius)

Blue lupine is not only a beautiful garden plant but also a very useful plant as a fertilizer because of the nitrogen fixing bacteria in its roots. These fix nitrogen from the air as phosphates. The seeds are also used as food (a typical snack in the Mediterranean area) and as a fertilizer (especially citrus and banana).

The seeds are high in protein but to eliminate a bitter taste they should be soaked in salt water for a long period of time.
